Creativity Crisis

Newsweek is normally not my favorite news source, but this article was able to get me thinking. Today seems like a day spent ruminating on creativity and how to nurture it. Twyla Tharp’s book, The Creative Habit (http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Habit-Learn-Use-Life/dp/0743235266) has been pretty useful in starting to think about regular habits that help push creativity. She gets a little preachy at times, but I’ve tried a few of her suggestions and have been happy with the results. I’m not sure if the results are a result of her methods or because I have creativity on my mind more than usual, but I felt better.

First Post September 2009Brilliant animator and illustrator Pasquale D’Silva wanted to travel the world, so he put forth the following proposal: You pay for airfare and survival expenses, and he’ll come to you and barter his creative skills in return. If you think that’s insane, it gets even more zany: It worked! So far he’s been to New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and Vancouver, to name a few. Some recent projects he’s helped out include Forrst and Carbonmade, but personally we’re most impressed with upgrades he made to TumblrBot’s human emotion chip.
